7 Months!

My time is flying!  I can't believe our little angel is 7 months already!  It seems like I just did a monthly post about her last week.

Sleep - We are continuing to improve although its a slow progress.  Typically Edith still wakes up about 3 times at night.  We've had some rough nights due to teething and being sick.  But we have also had some good nights when she only wakes up twice or like last night - ONCE!  She still goes to bed at 6:30 and usually starts the day between 6-7 am.  Her naps are probably the biggest improvement.  She'll sleep usually around an hour and her morning naps most days are closer to 2 hours.  Some days she take 2 naps, and some days three - we are phasing out the third nap, so not sure how long it will last.

Eating - Edith is still nursing, but she will take a bottle.  This month she finally had some formula for the first time and she takes the bottle with formula better than breast milk.  If I am around, I nurse her, but this does allow for someone else to put her to bed or most recently let me go away for a weekend (more on that in a different post).  She is also eating more solids.  We are slowly getting her up to three times a day.  So far the only thing she isn't a fan of squash on its own, so we mix it with other stuff!

Moving - She is getting very close to crawling.  She can rock on her knees, but typically drops down to her belly to scoot across the floor.  She is pretty fast this way, but I expect that she'll be even faster crawling.  She can also go into a sitting position on her own and she really likes doing that.  I think she would prefer to sit instead of being on her belly.  Fortunately she can't pull herself to a standing position - yet!

Playing - she loves playing with all kinds of toys. Especially Eddie's toys. Especially while he is playing with them!  Eddie's been pretty nice about sharing, but I am realizing that we need to watch her, because she just wants to grab!  She's still intrigued by Sammy, but is pretty gentle with him.

Other - she loves bath time and is getting really good about sitting in the tub without support.  We have been bathing the kids together for quite some time.  We have also starting swimming lessons with both kids.  I missed this weekend, but it sounds like she loves the water in the pool too!  She loves kicking!  Another tooth popped through this month, this time on top.  Who knows when the next tooth will come?  She loves her mama and often wants to be right by me or held.  This can be hard if I am trying to get things done.  I'm trying to not pick her up right away if she fusses, because often times if I wait a little bit, she'll get distracted.  Plus, when I do pick her up, she is often totally fine - little stinker!  It's fun to see her personality come out.  She loves to study her hands and she will watch you eat very intently.

Here are her monthly pictures:

You'll notice that I have no problems with getting one of them to sit still for the pictures!  The other one is like a tornado!!!!

Over the River and Through the Woods . . .

The past week Eddie, Edith, Sammy and I went down to visit my parents.  It was a fun "extended" weekend - we left Wednesday and came back on Tuesday.  We saw lots of family including Great-Grandma, Aunt Debbie, and helped celebrate Sebastian's first birthday!  I was really nervous making the trip alone, but my dad met me halfway and drove me back halfway.  He took Eddie in his car, so it was nice to break up the trip for him.  I didn't take too many pictures, but here are a few:

Practice Makes Perfect

Next weekend the kids and I are heading to WI to celebrate my godson's 1st Birthday!  We are very excited to see Sebastian, his sister Saffron as well at their parents along with other family.  I offered to make some cut-out cookies.  I bought number cookie cutters last year for Eddie's birthday, and I figured I won't have too many opportunities to use them, so I might as well take advantage.  I am going to frost them using royal icing, which Lisa showed me back when she visited in Oct.  I wanted to do some practicing before making the cookies for Sebastian's party, so they looked great.  I decided to make some snowflakes and they turned out pretty well!

And of course I cant resist posting a cute picture of the kids.  Uncas had to leave early Saturday morning to go out of town.  The kids were just waking up, so I quick brought them downstairs.

*As a side note, we normally don't let Eddie have his blankie or nuk outside his bedroom, but this was a special circumstance!

Moving and Shaking

Edith is moving around on the ground like crazy!  I think Eddie primarily rolled to get to what he wanted and he just liked to move for the sake of moving.  Edith, however is very determined and will sit up and play for a long time.  But when she gets down on her belly - she is all about finding things to play with and moving towards them.  It's really quite amazing.  Half the time when she gets to where she is going, she'll inspect the toy and then find something else.  Often her target is one of Eddie's toys.  Fortunately he is very sharing and usually doesn't mind - it helps that he has a lot (too many?) of toys!

Here's a video I took of her scooting along on her belly.  She doesn't go very far or fast, especially compared to where she has scooted since I have made the video.

And here is a series of pictures that shows her starting from a sitting position!

Oh, you're still watching me?!

Say What?!

The latest happenings in bullet points:
"shoveling" the yard
  • Saturday we met the sweetest little twin baby girls.  Born at 32 weeks on Dec. 28 they weigh 4 lbs and 3 lbs.  Uncas and I both got to hold Ronie, the smaller of the two.  Josie has more hair than Eddie and Edith combined!  They are doing pretty well and breathing on their own.  We could not be happier for our friends and know that they look forward to bringing their precious babies home.  And I can't wait to see them again!
  • While Eddie didn't get to meet the twins, he sure has a lot to say about them.  Mostly about what Josie eats.  He claims that she eats pizza and today over lunch she now eats peanut butter and jelly.
  • Speaking of Eddie and talking - he is just taking off like crazy with his words.  He says full sentences.  I love being able to communicate with him and understand what he needs or wants.  And let me tell you - he makes it very clear.  But along with that, we are making sure to teach him "please" and "thank you".  He is doing very well with that, so it's often hard to resists his requests when he says please without any prompting!  He also likes to tell us when someone is being funny or silly.  "Eddie funny" or "Daddy funny" come out of his mouth regularly.  Apparently Mama isn't nearly funny or silly enough.
  • Edith, who is not talking, is doing very well army crawling along the floor.  In fact, as I type this, she just scooted on her belly across our living room rug.  So much for hoping that our second child wouldn't be as mobile as Eddie.  It has been fun to watch her go and explore.  Things that she moves very quickly for - power cords!
  • It's January and we have had so little measure snowfall this winter!  I love it. Uncas is annoyed that I can actually shovel this year, but there is nothing for me to shovel.  Eddie wants to shovel, so he has taken to "shoveling" the ground - see picture above.  You'll notice he's in a fleece, it's so warm out!
And with that, I should really get back to my moving daughter who is getting angry or crabby or bored or all three!

6 Month Stats

Today Edith had her 6 month appointment.  She currently weighs 17 lb. 2 oz (71 percentile) and is 26 1/4 inches tall (68 percentile).  The dr. was super pleased with her numbers and her development.  We talked about her eating more solids and attempting to reduce the amount of her reflux medication.  Edith had 4 shots today, poor girl, but she did rather well.  All in all - she is a healthy baby girl!
She is also quite stylish thanks to her new hat!

I also want to say a huge thank to my friend Ella who watched Eddie for me while I was at the dr. with Edith.  Last time I took Eddie along to one of Edith's appointments was a huge fail!  This way he got to play with his friend Eliza instead of being cooped up in a tiny room at the doctor's office!
