It's a little crazy that our little girl is nearly one! I feel like these last couple of months have gone by in a blur! We've had another big month. Here's what's going on:
Sleep - I am happy to report that there is nothing new going on in this area. Talk about a relief! She is sleeping through the night. She typically goes to bed at 6:30 and sleeps until 6:30-7 the next day. She takes two naps, one around 9 am and one around 1 pm. She usually will sleep for at least an hour for each one, but closer to an hour and a half. I never thought we would get here, but we are and it's amazing!
Eating - She's still a great eater. She'll try almost anything and she's pretty much starting to eat whatever we do at meals. I try to give her baby oatmeal cereal or rice cereal in the morning, but she hates being spoon-fed. She has also started throwing food off of her high chair. The only one who likes this is Sammy! Eddie was doing the same thing at this age, so I guess it's pretty typical. We are now only giving her bottles before she sleep. She is still on medication for the reflux, but I am wondering if she has outgrown it. I think we'll know more when we go to her 12 month check-up.
Moving - This month she took her first steps! She still prefers to crawl, but likes seeing us get excited after she has walked on her own. She loves the walker and recently started to actually steer it, so she can do the circle in the house all by herself. And if she gets stuff, she will just ram it until she is unstuck or someone comes to help (this is also done with a scream that sounds like the world is coming to an end - more on that later.) She will hold onto the walls and travel around the house like that. This week is she starting to walk short distances by herself. And she will also climb up the stairs. Up until last week, she maybe went up one stair once or twice. Now she can go up all of them, and really fast. We have brought the baby (dog) gates back out!
Teething - She doesn't have anymore teeth from last month, but I think she is teething again (it never seems to stop with her).
Playing - She plays so well by herself. She likes cars and knows how to move them around. She also likes playing instruments and she likes to read books. She often wants whatever Eddie is playing with, which isn't shocking. She likes to play with Sammy and loves to give stuffed animals hugs. She also pretends to give us food and feed us with a spoon. She likes to feed Eddie too. It's amazing how much she picks up from watching Eddie!
Communication - Edith has done a good job of picking up signs. She knows "more", "eat", "all done", "milk". She can also wave hi, blow kisses, and clap. She can understand when I ask her to pick out a dinosaur. We think she is pretty brilliant! At this age, Eddie wouldn't even clap, so it's really interesting to the differences between the two of them. She can also say the word no very clearly and it also sounds like she is saying all done when she does the sign. I think she'll be talking very soon.
Other - her personality continues to emerge. If she doesn't get a toy that she is trying to grab from Eddie, she'll scream. If you don't pick her up when she wants, she'll scream. If she is stuck with the walker, she'll scream - noticing a pattern? And usually it's not just a scream, but a lie on the floor, oh the world is ending pout, sometimes with real tears. It makes me incredibly nervous for when she turns two! But, she is also so very sweet. And when she smiles, they are like nothing else! She likes to give kisses and she likes to snuggle sometimes. She is very attached to her Mama and often in the late afternoon/early evening she just wants to be held. This can make dinner making a little challenging.
Only one more month of the pictures! I am relieved and trying to figure out what the heck I should do with Mr. Whale!
