Ice Fishing

I never did get those pictures off of Uncas's phone, but they did make it in the local paper:

Eddie is holding hot chocolate. I think he had more fun drinking that, eating a cookie and scooping ice out of the hole.  They didn't catch anything, but he had fun.  He said it was fun, but he also said it was cold.

Eddie Nimz, right, hands a cup of hot chocolate to his father, Reid Nimz, as the two man an ice fishing hole. (Sun staff photo by Andrew Wig)

Edith threw a huge fit when the guys left, but after I explained that you have to sit still in the cold and be quiet, she was fine (really, I got out a new toy to distract her).

This reminds me of the story of me when I was a young naive little girl.  We were living up in Michigan and driving over a bridge in winter.  I looked out the window and saw all these little houses on the frozen water.  I asked my parents about it and they said it was people ice fishing.  I asked if we could go sometime and they both said NO! What wise people :-)  Truth be told, I have gone to visit Uncas while he was ice fishing on Lake Harriet when we lived at our duplex.  It's truly not a sport for me, but I'm hopeful that one of the kids will take it up, so Daddy has an ice fishing partner.
